After his release, he made it back to the States, where he died from his mistreatment on October 24, 1945 in Alameda, CA. My Grandfather is trying to find out where he is buried. Message is: My uncle was known as Mack by everyone. he went in the Navy around 1941. I know he had a tattoo that said USS Donaldson on his arm. He was a chief petty officer E-9 when they retired him in the late 70'sdue to illness. He disappeared and haven't seen him since. His home was in National City California and he was assigned to North Island Coronado. I can't remember what the last ship he was on but he was in Viet Nam for 4 years.
