Trying to see if Mr. Sterner (or anyone else who may remember me) could corroborate that that I did serve in Vietnam. My DD214 shows that I received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal in 1965 (AFEM was the precursor of the Vietnam Service medal which was awarded after 1965 to veterans who served in Vietnam). VA says that the service medal is not sufficient evidence that I actually served in Vietnam.

Message is: My late father-in-law (SSGT Joe Bailey AF17520654 (UF 56) J27) was stationed in Okinawa Japan and recieved TDO to Udorn AB Thailand. My mother in law says she knows he was in DA Nang. Also I remeber him saying he actually went three terms. My sitution is this in February 2007 ,we applied for Veterans to help with meds ,dad had a stroke in 96. He was classified as 8.Then approx 6wks before he passed(7/27/07) we found out he had lung cancer.So we reapplied,but before he finished his, he passed away.So then we applied for DIC for my mother-in -law to which we recently found she was denied because they don't have anything placing him in Nam. When we applied for my m-i-l we submitted a letter from LT Col Charles Lower stating Dad served for 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive days in Vietnam and is eligible for the VSM,which is also shown on one of his DD?? forms.Much to the surprise of our local VA rep in the denial he has helped start an appeal,and asked if we knew ! anyone that could place dad therein Nam. He also stated that the airforce didn't do a very good job in documenting.Please Anyone Can respond with any suggestions. GOD BLESS
