Message is: Hal Newell was my first husband. He passed away in 1983. We had 2 wonderful sons together who were very young when their father died. I would love to find someone who served in Viet Nam with him, and maybe could share any stories/info with our sons.Hal was a radio controller (operator?)in Nam. His nickname there was "Ol Weird Harold". He was once pictured in the "Leatherneck" magazine - standing watch. He was there during the Tet Offensive. He mentioned a guy there known as "Shakey Jake". He rarely spoke of Viet Nam, so I still know very little of that time in his life He won a bunch of medals. He was about 19 years old, and served 13 months, somewhere between 1968 and 1970.(Hal's birthday was Nov.5, 1949.) He went to basic training in Camp Pendelton, and was from Northern CA. Some of the names that I recall are Sgts. Dalton, Gleason, Corbin, Cpls. Gorski, Bradford, Kirk, and then there wer Jones, Merritt, Nielson, Cruise, Bechtold, Bouchard, Hertz, Jernigan, Kirkwood, Pooler and any others.
