Message is: This wonderful man is my grandfather. Well, actually my step grandfather, but good enough. I need to find him for several reasons. I am now 23 and have known him mt whole life. Message is: I'm actually looking for my father. I do not have any way of getting in touch with him. The last time I saw him was nine years ago in Atlanta, Georgia I was 16 years old. At that moment we were both facing difficult times in our lives so I went my own way. Prior to that our paths crossed when I was about 13. Due to unfortunate circumstances for which I had no control over he was gone in a flash! Prior to that I was at the age of five. Now I find myself at the age of 25 with the same burning questions which only he can answer. All I know is what my mom has told me in the past and that is he went as the man she loved and came back as someone totaly screwed up, and that's why she left him. If it takes me doing all the research on what my father did in Vietnam to find out what changed him then so be it. The only problem is that I find myse! lf with too little info on him to search the web for what I seek. It's kinda like having one leg to walk on which isn't very easy! I know my father was a great man and served his country to it's best just as many other great men did, but lost there lives instead. I worked in the powerplants shop with some very fine people and would like to hear from anyone who remembers me. I departed VMFA-251 in 1969 and went through staging at Camp Pendleton and then thru Okinawa and finally landed in Chu-Lai on 31 December, 1969. I was assigned to H&MS 13 in Chu-Lai in the powerplants section. I would enjoy hearing from anyone who can remember me from any of my duty assignments.After serving in RVN I was flown to Iwakuni for a brief time then to Taiwan then to Yakota AFB and finally to Treasure Island, San Francisco for RELAD. I was released from active duty on 18 December 1970. I originally joined the USMC from Rhode Island but now live in Hernando, Florida. I am a retired Sergeant Major in the Army but I always look back on my days as a Marine as something special. I have been searching f! or some time now to find anyone I served with during those 4 years but have been frustrated with the results. Robert and six other marines one of which is Phillip Brannon were caught in an ambush of a CAC installation in September 1966. Robert was the sole survivor of the individuals at the installation. My brother believes that Ralph was from California. I beleive when they were together, they were attached to Bravo Co., 3rd Tanks, 3rd Marines. I know they were with the 26th Marine Regiment. They were in Con Tien, Phu Bi, Quang Tri Province. My brother was also in Khe Sanh for 9 months. I'm not sure if Ralph was there too. The name of their tank was "Wild Thing!" In an effort to locate Ralph Gonsalez, several years ago, I had used several of the "Lost and Found" sites. Maybe, your site has better info and resources.
