Message is: My father was Franklin Charles McDonald. He also went by Frank and Chuck. I know very little about him. I know that he was a marine, that he served four tours in vietnam and he made it home. Not without emotional damage of course. When he got back he got work on the oil rigs. My mother met him in Wyoming and moved to Texas(Laredo) with him. It didn't work out between him and my mother and she left him. in september of 78(?), Chuck, as my mother refers to him, was in an accident. The fish line on the oil rig snapped and spun around cutting him in the abdomen he bled to death before he made it to the hospital. My mother believes that he has other children and knows little else, or not anything that she has chose to share with me. I am curious about who he was and what he was like because I am nothing like anyone else in my family, not even the way I look. If this rings a bell to anyone please email me. I was Sgt. of the guard one night when the gooks lobbed a bomb onto the hill, it knocked me down and I also recieved schrarnel wounds, the bomb hit an ammo storage pile at some arty Btty. possibly Whiskey Btty on one of the fingers of the hill. I can't remember all teh details (ptsd) and years keep me from it. I helped carry and rescue dead wounded to the sickbay bunker, and helped load bodies onto trucks. I sleep with this every day and night. If anyone can remember me or that night please contact me, I got no purple heart for this and I am not going to beg for one. Message is: Met Sarge at Great Lakes Naval Hospital end of 1965. Shot five times in stomach and back - paralyzed from waist down. From Pittsburgh, PA area. Staff Sargeant in USMC. Message is: I knew him as Major Dale Schuman when I met him in Okinawa, 1969 as a World Airways flight attendant. The last letter I received was June, 1970 when he returned to VN and was promoted to Lt. Col. He was north of the DMZ setting up communications, but couldn't tell me where as a matter of policy.
