Message is: Walked point May 20, 1967 when Kilo 3/9 was ambushed, and nearly over run on Hill 70 in Quang Tri Province Republic of Viet Nam! Cook walked up on 2 NVA soldiers sitting in a trail to the top of Hill 70 apparently guarding a stockpile of 82 mm mortar rounds! This hill had been the scene of a battle three weeks before where India company 3/9 had been ambushed and nearly wiped out! Kilo company was told before deploying into this grid that no American unit had been in this area before without being nearly wiped out. Good pep talk huh?

Message is: I was in AF unit stationed at Dong Ha. I met Danny Sullivan when Lima 3/4 was deployed and billeted with us at Dong Ha in early 1966 (prior to the full division). We became friends (even went R&R to Tokyo together). As usual in these situations I lost contact when I rotated in 1967. While stationed at Dong Ha I was present when Danny was awarded the Navy Cross. Recently while going through old (really old) piles of photos I found pictures of Danny getting the Cross as well as many others taken around the Dong Ha Marine encampment (Hospital, Press Tent, etc.). I would like to give these pictures to Danny and would appreciate any help in contacting him or someone who knows how to and would be willing to forward the pictures to him. I know he worked for the Boston PD and is now retired. I contacted the Boston PD but they understandably could not give me his address.
